La Brune “Premier Cru” Wines

We believe that the greatest skill a winemaker can possess is the ability to preserve the connection between a wine and its surrounding terroir. In other words, the ability to bring to light a sense of place in a wine. Our single vineyard Premier Cru range carries the message of this complex connection.

Chardonnay

Our Premier Cru Chardonnay showcases the profile of Table Mountain sandstone with hints of brioche, fruit, and citrus skin on the nose, followed by a mineral body and layers of texture that come together in a tight and linear finish.

‘Flinty reduction, vanilla, cinnamon and some leesy complexity currently sit above subtle notes of citrus and apple. The palate is super-dense with driving acidity and an emphatically dry finish.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 96/100.

Pinot Noir

Our Premier Cru Pinot Noir perfectly balances power and elegance. This wine possesses a unique earthiness, which, coupled with its natural acidity, makes this vintage both refined and full of character.

‘Compelling aromatics of red and black cherry, orange, rose and violets, a subtle herbal note, earth and spice. The palate is dramatic—super-concentrated, big acidity, grippy tannins. Vinous—intensely flavoured but equally harmonious, rich without sacrificing definition.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 97/100

Method Cap Classic

30% Chardonnay, 70% Pinot Noir

La Brune “The Valley” Wines

The cool climate of the Elgin Valley offers unique complexities—capturing this is our focus.

The Valley range is about exploring Elgin. Finding vineyards that bring all the profiles, characters and complexities that exist within Elgin terroir to the cellar is both a fun and incredibly intricate process. Over the years, we have built a range of vineyards across 18 different sites, 5
different Chardonnay and Pinot Noir clones, and 4 different soil types.

We work hand in hand in hand with our growers to complete this unique and special project that is putting the Elgin Valley into a bottle.

Chardonnay

La Brune’s The Valley Chardonnay is fresh, pure and clean, with hints of citrus, apples and pears. It both linear and tight with a mineral core coated with beautiful Elgin fruit, and ends in a long, clean finish.

‘Enticing aromatics of orchard blossom, citrus and apple. Pure, bright and pithy—precise with lots of refreshment and good length.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100

Pinot Noir

Our The Valley Pinot Noir showcases the beautiful profile of the Elgin Valley with notes of strawberry, cherry and citrus skin, complemented by hints of mushroom and earth. With a juicy palate and mineral core refined by oak maturation, the balance between complexity and drinkability is perfected.

‘Clean, pure fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins—open and accessible but not short of fruit definition, plenty of zip, not aggressively dry. Concentrated, maybe even luscious.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100

“To Burgundians, the specific features of a plot (soil, microclimate, history of ancient practices etc.) are the major factor in the variations between wines: the plot dictates the wine’s personality, and the winemaker reveals it. The supremacy of location over human labour is more pronounced here than absolutely anywhere else: the Burgundian philosophy of terroir is that it is nature that creates wine, with humans as its humble servants.”
